This recipe is one of those recipes that looked different in my head. I had a pretty good idea of what I was going to make but then like always, you make alterations as you go. My diced apples ended up being sliced and my buttermilk ended up being whole milk and so on. And I’m so happy it did because the end result was a super moist and soft apple sheet cake drizzled with salted caramel sauce. Fall dessert heaven that makes you crave a glass of milk while eating!
How To Make This Salted Caramel Apple Sheet Cake?
First off. I always start by gathering all of the ingredients needed in a recipe and weighing and measuring EVERYTHING before I start to cook or bake. This part is really important to me and key in keeping everything organized. It also speeds up the entire session, makes it easier and your less likely to forget any ingredient.
To make this salted caramel apple sheet cake you start by prepared your sheet pan and then you melt together butter and water in a saucepan.
Meanwhile, you combine all of the dry ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer.
Then you add the butter mixture to the flour mixture. As well as the milk, eggs and vanilla.
Then you fold in the apple slices and pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan.
You bake the cake for 20-22 minutes or until it’s ready! And let the cake cool down while you make the caramel sauce.
You make the caramel sauce by combining sugar, butter and cream in a small saucepan. You bring it to boil and let it boil for 2 minutes stirring constantly. You then remove it from the heat and stir in vanilla and sea salt. You then let the caramel cool down for 5 minutes. It will thicken slightly.
Then you drizzle the caramel sauce over the apple sheet cake with a spoon and it’s ready to serve!
Recipe Notes:
-You can chop, dice or slice the apples. Whichever way you prefer. I decided to slice them and fold into the batter. That way the sliced apples make a nice garnish on top of the cake.
-If you’d like the caramel sauce to be more creamy, you can double the amount of heavy cream to 60 gr/ 4 tbsps.
-Buttermilk can be used instead of whole milk in this recipe.
