Make These Homemade Fudgy Brownies
I always start by gathering all of the ingredients needed in a recipe and weighing and measuring everything before I start to cook or bake. This part is really important and key in keeping everything organized.
You can find the full printable version of this recipe at the bottom of this post.
To make this recipe you will need the following ingredients:
- Unsalted butter
- Granulated sugar
- Eggs, room temperature
- Vanilla extract
- All purpose flour
- Cocoa powder
- Fine salt
- Powdered sugar (optional)
You start by preheating the oven to 175C / 350F and greasing and lining a baking pan with parchment paper. Then you melt butter in the microwave and stir in the sugar.
In a separate bowl whisk the eggs and stir in the butter mixture and vanilla extract until everything is combined. Add the flour, cocoa powder and salt. Carefully mix together until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake in the middle of the oven for 20-25 minutes. Let the brownies cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before removing and cutting into squares.
Store These Homemade Fudgy Brownies
Store any leftovers of these delicious brownies in an airtight container OR in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. You can also freeze them for 2-3 months. Just thaw them overnight in the refrigerator and then bring them to room temperature before serving.
Notes & Substitutions
Unsalted Butter: Instead of unsalted butter you can use salted butter (just skip the added salt in the recipe then), or same amount of any type of oil.
Granulated Sugar: You can use brown or light brown sugar instead of granulated sugar. You should also be able to use other types of sugar such as coconut sugar or raw cane sugar.
Can I Add In Chocolate?
Yes absolutely! To add real chocolate to these brownies just add the same amount as butter of semi sweet or dark chocolate chips/chunks. Melt the chocolate in the microwave with the butter and continue on from there.
When recipe testing this recipe (5 times lol), I tried many different methods including using 70% chocolate and semi sweet chocolate. I ended up using only cocoa powder in my recipe because I think this is the perfect simple brownie recipe that you can easily adjust and make your own.
Keep in mind that when you add melted chocolate to the recipe they will take longer to bake or a total of about 30-35 minutes depending on ovens.
You can also just add in some chocolate chips/chunks to the batter after you’ve transferred it to the baking pan. That way the chocolate will melt while baking.
