This simple and delicious Ham and Asparagus Bread Casserole is the perfect dish for any mealtime or occasion. It consists of a bread filling with a creamy sauce, ham and asparagus. Which happens to be a combination I have always loved. It is then topped with shredded cheese and baked in the oven until golden brown.

What Is A Bread Casserole?

Bread casseroles are casseroles with a bread filling in a creamy sauce. They also usually include some type of add ins such as some type of meat and or vegetables. You can pretty much add in anything you like and therefore they are perfect for using up leftovers.

How To Make This Ham and Asparagus Bread Casserole?

I always start by gathering all of the ingredients needed in a recipe and weighing and measuring everything before I start to cook or bake. This part is really important and key in keeping everything organized.

To make this ham and asparagus bread casserole you start by cutting the ends of sandwich bread and slicing it into 4 cubes. Or 6 cubes if you want smaller.

Then in a large skillet or saucepan (I use nonstick skillet) you combine sour cream, mayonnaise and cream of mushroom soup. Stir until melted together.

Then you stir in the ham and asparagus. And season with salt and pepper.

Then you take it off the heat and stir in the bread cubes until they are soaked in the sauce.

Then you pour the mixture in a casserole dish, top with shredded cheese and bake in the oven until it’s ready!

How To Serve This Ham and Asparagus Bread Casserole?

The reason I love bread casseroles is that they can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner. And they are also often served at parties or gatherings as they are perfect for sharing.

Recipe Notes:

-You can add heavy cream to the sauce if you think it’s too thick.

-You can use any type of bread you have. If you want to use up leftover loaf of bread instead of sliced sandwich bread, just cut the crust of and then tear it or slice it into bite sized cubes.

-I used 15 slices of bread, but it depends on the size of the casserole dish your using. You want the filling to fill out the dish.

Substitutions:

Sour cream/mayonnaise- If you don’t have or want to use both sour cream and mayonnaise you could just double the amount of either one of them and use only sour cream or only mayonnaise.

Cream of mushroom soup- If you don’t like mushrooms or want to use another type of soup, you can use any type you want or have.

Asparagus- If you don’t like asparagus you can substitute it with any other vegetable. For example, mushrooms, broccoli, bell pepper, corn, onions.

Mozzarella cheese- You can use any type of cheese in this recipe.
