This Cheese Crusted Pizza Grilled Cheese is my favorite way of making grilled cheese and my favorite grilled cheese combination. When you also put cheese on top of grilled cheese sandwiches, something wonderful happens. The cheese melts into the bread and creates a crispy cheesy crust. I hope you enjoy!
By combining pizza sauce, cheese and oregano you get a flavor that tastes like homemade pizza. If you haven’t tried cheese crusted pizza grilled cheese before, you definitely should. And if you haven’t tried putting dried oregano on top of pizza before either, you definitely should!
The classic version has no extra toppings but feel free to add your favorite pizza toppings to the sandwich for example:
Pepperoni
Ham
Pineapple
Bacon
Mushrooms
Onions
Olives
Anything you can think of…
Whatever your favorite grilled cheese combination is, let me tell you the cheese crust makes ANY grilled cheese sandwich better.
And for a little extra pizza sauce try using it as a DIP for your sandwich.
Bread Note
You can use any type of bread. White sandwich bread, whole grain, seeded, bakery style bread, sourdough bread etc.
Cheese Note
You can use any type of cheese you want instead of mozzarella. You can also use shredded cheese instead of sliced.

My family loves pizza grilled cheese – so much so that I can’t even make regular ones anymore. I add another layer of toppings on top of the grilled sandwich then throw it into the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese. It’s almost like a double decker pizza.
That’s an awesome idea that I’m going to have to try!
