For all you ham and pineapple fans out there. This Cheese Crusted Hawaiian Grilled Cheese is THE comfort food for you. This method of grilled cheese sandwiches is the only way I make grilled cheese and have been doing so for years or ever since I was just a teenager experimenting in the kitchen. You are going to love these cheese crusted hawaiian grilled cheese sandwiches.

The original way I made cheese crusted grilled cheese was with pizza sauce, cheese and dried oregano. You can then add your favorite pizza toppings to it.

But back to the Hawaiian one. Imagine the flavors of ham and pineapple with dried oregano flavored mozzarella cheese aka Hawaiian pizza on sourdough bread with a crispy cheese crust.

The oregano flavor is everything! And if you haven’t tried topping pizza with dried oregano, you definitely should.

Pizza Sauce Tip:

It’s also delicious to add pizza sauce to this sandwich. Do that by simply spreading pizza sauce on the slices of bread before adding toppings.

You can also use pizza sauce as a DIP for this sandwich.

Bread Note:

If you don’t have sourdough bread you can use any type of bread you have. White sandwich bread, seeded bread, etc.

Cheese Note:

You can use any type of cheese that you have instead of mozzarella. You can also try using a mix of cheeses.

Slices of cheese also work great both between the bread and on top. And since cheese slices don’t fall apart like shredded cheese does they are perfect for when using sandwich bread instead of sourdough bread. (Mainly cause of the shape of the bread)

Pineapple Note:

Chunks of pineapple work great instead of sliced circles.

I hope you enjoy this cheese crusted Hawaiian grilled cheese recipe as much as I do. And if you make it be sure to leave a comment and/or give it a rating! I’d also love to hear from you on Instagram and see what you make. So if you do, don’t forget to tag @alaingablog

Wow that looks amazing! I never thought to make a grilled cheese with pineapple before. I’ll have to give it a try. And I love the crusted cheese exterior you came up with.
